Hello, world.
— getting this thing started! --
I would imagine every (older) developer eventually ends up writing one of these, jaded or not.
I’ve been meaning to start a proper(ish) blog for a while. Not a polished publication — just somewhere to put down thoughts, document things I’m figuring out, and occasionally rant about software in a semi-coherent way, AI musings — my “journey into AI” and so on.
This blog itself is a product of my nascent attempts to transition into AI as seamlessly as possible. To be honest, it’s an adventure, an exciting one, and also a strange experience in my years to offload the heavy lifting to an anonymous agent. “Agentic engineering” is the new buzzword; I will have to adapt to the reality that my trusted old moniker of “Software developer” is now royally replaced with “Agentic developer” or similar.
Quite frankly the move is riddled with new terms and acronyms, a new slang to learn, not much dissimilar to the heady days of writing my first Java, but this time the control is implicit — it’s not me having to write the code, it’s me having to understand how to “direct” the circus. The father becomes the son, as they say.
So here it is, plain and simple. Even this small offering of an Astro-built blog is a result of me in deep discourse with GitHub Copilot, one of my favourites so far, but there’s more to come. Lucky to work for a tech-savvy company that opens up many of the AI offerings for us, and is pushing us into the AI ecosystem. So it’s a work in progress — the AI helping me keep the platform spick and span (avoiding defaulting to some bloated CMS), and I make my mark by actually writing the blog posts by hand. Well, yes — though I’m sure AI has a better grasp of grammar than my quick musings.
So bear with me; it’s going to be a living creature as I find out more, and learn more, as well as realise my potential shortcomings of years of habits now needing to be relearnt in the new world. I’ll add more features as they come, as my companionship with folk like Claude gets a bit more amicable perhaps?
Thanks for stopping by, and keep in touch!
